Toll station for the Millau Bridge, France

On-site production of very accurate prefabricated parts

The “Gare de Péage” toll station is situated about four kilometres north of the bridge. The individual toll booths are roofed by a 98 x 28 m twisting and curved concrete shell.

A total of 54 differently shaped individual segments, which are between 0.60 to 2.00 m high, form the actual concrete roof. The segments are prefabricated and then bolted together - after being placed in their fi nal position, they were pre-tensioned by means of tensioning strands resulting in a permanent connection to each other.

PERI planned, assembled and supplied a cost-effective formwork solution for the manufacture of the different individual segments, with weights of up to 65 t, directly on site. The complicated segment design is characterized not only by the dimensional accuracy but also the excellent concrete finish.

Site Manager

“The mutually-designed formwork for prefabricated parts for the roof units delivered by PERI fulfi lled the high demands regarding architectural concrete quality and ensured that the geometry of the different segments could be followed. The work cycle of two days per standard unit could also be complied with without any problems.”
