Unusual concrete construction and designed concrete surfaces

The city of Milwaukee extended the Art Museum which is situated in a first-class area directly next to Lake Michigan. The imposing building will impressively change the face of Milwaukee because of its unusual architecture. Different art exhibitions will be arranged over an area of 11,620 m² representing a cultural enrichment for the whole region. The extraordinary design originates from the pen of the Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava, who compares the building with the sculpture of a flying bird.

To technically construct Milwaukee''s masterpiece, as the museum is called, and to fulfil the high demands of the creative architect for quality, was no every-day task: there were curved walls with changing radii as well as different floor heights and steps in the slabs to be constructed to the highest quality.
The combination of standard PERI formwork parts and some special solutions, individually adjusted to the required geometry of the building, helped CG Schmidt to execute the reinforced concrete work economically and on time.
