Competent engineering and logistical services
The roof of the long-distance railway station at Frankfurt airport formed the base area for a nine-storey extension and, on an area of 660 m x 65 m, provides over 150,000 m² of floor space. 17 tower cranes and up to 800 workers worked in two-shift operations with large quantities of materials in order that the Airrail Center could be completed in the short construction period. Extremely limited open spaces, due to the site being located between heavily used traffic routes, made construction progress even more difficult.
Apart from the technical advantages of the scaffold and formwork systems, construction- compliant solutions and the planning services, the PERI logistics in particular contributed to the successful completion of the project
Efficient PERI teamwork resulted in a range of comprehensive solutions with reliable and flexible deliveries to the site - this included 16,500 m² table modules, 21,500 m² TRIO and 23,500 slab props. For construction of the slabs, large-sized slab tables and SKYDECK were used which were supplemented, if required, by MULTIFLEX girder slab formwork. In addition, edge slab tables with integrated guardrails accelerated the construction progress.
A detailed shoring concept based on PERI UP Rosett provided temporary load transfer from up to three storeys. Depending upon the height and load, standard applications with pre-defined tower units as well as individually configured scaffold towers were used. Due to the modular structure and the metric grid arrangement with 150, 75 and 25 cm ledgers, the single load-bearing capacities of 40 kN per standard in both lateral and longitudinal directions can be significantly increased for higher loads. Cramped erection areas and emergency routes which had to be accessible at all times could therefore be taken into consideration.
