Shoring and assembly platform
for 180-tonne roof girder

Eight truss girders made of steel form the basic construction for the roofing of the new multi-functional hall - 80 m long and 5.40 m high. Each of the main constructional elements – the up to three metre wide pairs of trusses - weighs a massive 180 tonnes. In order to be able to cost-effectively assemble the roof, a very economical assembly concept was developed. This envisaged placing the main girders, which had already been pre-assembled on the ground, on temporary PERI UP shoring by means of two mobile cranes, then complete the assembly process and move it into its final position on the load bearing long-sided walls at a height of 15 metres. For this, the octagonally-shaped layout of the 80 x 120 metre sports facility required a 16.75 m long and high load-carrying scaffold construction.

The PERI solution functioned in equal measure as shoring and as an assembly platform, and allowed site personnel to work very efficiently. Consequently, the pairs of trusses – which were delivered to the site in segments and then pre-fabricated on the ground – were lifted up and placed in position, and subsequently connected at 7 m spacings to form a flat roof construction. Similar to the incremental launching method used in bridge building, this was gradually pushed along in a longitudinal direction - as if on rails – into the final position. In this way, assembly work was safe, cost-effective and required only a minimum amount of construction time. Bearing loads on both sides of the roof trusses of 900 kN respectively were transferred via one HEB 300 steel girder on rentable PERI SRU 120 steel walers. These, in turn, were positioned in a lateral direction at distances of 75 cm on the PERI UP supporting structure. Pulled hydraulically, the truss girders were able to slide along with the help of teflon plates in the direction of the 1.50 m thick, load-bearing walls.

The load-bearing system together with the bracing also served as an assembly platform for the final assembly of the roof construction. The combination of PERI UP in the inner area of the arena and the externally- suspended SB brace frame system extended the 15 m high working platform to an area reaching 22 m x 80 m. Horizontallypositioned and linked brace frames served in this case as a load-bearing support con
