The Troika, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
An RCS-based individual climbing formwork solution
Three new apartment towers with 50, 44 and 38 floors respectively, and an impressive glass and steel facade, dominate the Kuala Lumpur city centre. The building complex is in close proximity to the 452 m high Petronas Towers and bears the hallmark of the renowned architect, Sir Norman Foster. The central inner-city location required a detailed logistics operation which matched the construction progress as well as flexible and adaptable formwork and scaffolding solutions because storage space was not available. In addition, due to the concentration of residential development in the surrounding area, work had to be carried out according to a very tight schedule.
On the basis of the RCS rail climbing system, a formwork solution was developed which accelerated the work sequences for constructing the 25 wall sections. This serves as an architectural and highly visible design element. Furthermore, the RCS could be adapted to suit the special construction method in order to realise these structural components with prefabricated concrete panels in one working operation. The PERI planning measures took into consideration the fact that the floor slabs were formed with three subsequent cycles.

“In order to realize Foster´s dream, we used new methods and, in so doing, co-operated very closely with PERI. In addition, we also want to play a pioneering role regarding environmental protection and use versatile equipment with a high level of re-usability. For this, the PERI systems are an important factor.”
