The Great Mosque for H. H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan II, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Large quantities of formwork efficiently employed with CAD supported formwork planning
One of the most important engineering feats of the whole region was created with the construction of this, the largest mosque in the Gulf. After completion, four thin 110 m high minarets will tower over the 550,000 m² site and will give an idea of the dimensions of this complex from afar. In future around 27,000 religious members will find peace and devotion during prayers in an area of almost 44,000 m².
Fixed parts of the architecture for this oriental building are the changing arched shapes and ornamental structures. Flexible formwork systems were necessary for their construction, which allowed the greatest efficiency as well as the best surface results.
Continual dialogue between the site and the PERI Engineers, as well as the accompanying CAD-supported PERI formwork planning, enabled maximum economical use of the large quantities VARIO materials ordered.
Supplementary building elements, such as foundations or low retaining walls, were formed on site with HANDSET units. Crane capacity can be saved through the low weight of the components that can be easily moved by hand. The numerous, small, octagonal details of the mosque construction could be ideally formed.
