VARIO and PD 8 systems
for the 5 star resort hotel complex
“ALEC/AJES Joint Venture has been employed to manage the Design and Construction of a 5 Star resort hotel complex in Abu Dhabi located in the Between the Bridges area on the channel that separates the mainland from Abu Dhabi Island. It is located between Maqta and Musaffah bridges. The Resort has approximately 1 kilometer of water frontage. The resort consists of the following:
5 Star resort hotel in an Arabic theme.
161 apartments ranging from 1 bedroom to 4 bedrooms.
A 10 storey 163 unit executive accommodation building.
6 of 500 m2 luxury villas.
1 of 2 000 m2 luxury villa.
A lighthouse restaurant of approximately 400 m2.
A retail complex.
A Health Spa.
A salt water +1.5 m deep canal running the length of the development.
There will be limited marine works involving the removal of 2 rock groins and installation of a quay wall to retain an infinity type swimming pool. In addition it is required to create a “perched beach” which is basically a reef along the entire beach front to protect the newly created beach from erosion from the tidal channel.
The structure consists of a conventional reinforced concrete frame with block work infill. The PERI System was chosen for this development due to its versatility as a system. At the time the system was procured only the concept design was approved. The detailed design including the structural frame was still evolving, but due to the lead in time for new equipment a formwork
system had to be chosen without the structural design being complete due to the fast track nature of the project. Hence the choice of PERI System.
The PERI Vario system was used for walls and slabs and beams and the PD 8 frames for double and triple volume areas and heavy beams due to the flexibility of the system.
It has worked out extremely well and we are very pleased with the quality of concrete work that we have managed to produce.”
