Reinforced concrete slab safely and quickly formed with GRIDFLEX
Located in the south of France, Beziers is around 20 km from the Mediterranean coastline. Due to easy access to the main transportation routes, 70,000 inhabitants live here. With the demolition of a derelict group of buildings in the historical town centre, space was created for a new housing area. 130 council-sponsored apartments, spread among four separate buildings, could be realized.
Altogether 11,000 m² reinforced concrete slabs were to be constructed with a thickness of 20 cm whilst actual floor heights reached 2.57 m. With the new GRIDFLEX girder grid slab formwork system, fast and safe forming could be carried out. Then, as with SKYDECK, the pre-determined and therefore simple assembly sequence provided by GRIDFLEX resulted in shorter forming times. The 20 kg lightweight 200x100 standard elements were hooked in from below at one end and swivelled upwards at the other so that 2 m² of formwork could be positioned with one single assembly step.
Adjustment to building´s geometry took place by means of simply telescoping the compensation elements in longitudinal and transverse directions. This meant residual areas could be avoided - time-consuming, conventional closure formwork was not required to a large extent.
After positioning and aligning the formwork, the formlining could be laid - freely selectable depending upon requirements. For this, the GRIDFLEX girder grid provided very safe access. The small main beam spacings offered site personnel the required high level of safety against any possibility of falling.

“GRIDFLEX is the best system I have used so far for forming slabs. The elements are very light and the fast system allows simple adjustments to be made to suit the geometry of the building.”
