Rusca Dam, Teregova, Romania Climbing formwork for every form and high loads The Rusca Dam in the Banater Mountains has an overall height of 75 m and the river Raul Alb river forms a reservoir at this point which contains a seasonal-related volume of up to an impressive 35 million m³ of water when full. The curved top of the dam is 280 m long with a constant width of 4 m. The base of the three-dimensional curvilineal structure is 16 m wide. In the space of only three years, around 180,000 m³ of concrete was used in the construction. PERI engineers from the Bucharest office developed a cost-effective formwork concept for this dam project which fulfilled all requirements for maintaining specified construction schedules together with high quality of workmanship. The 15 m long casting segments were shuttered, reinforced and concreted with cycle heights of 2 m. With the single-sided PERI climbing formwork solution using SKS climbing brackets and VARIO GT 24 girder wall formwork, site crews were in a position to carry out all required adjustments directly on site. The SKS 180 brackets allowed alignments to be made to changes in the vertical angle of inclination - both in a forward and reverse direction - reaching up to 20 degrees at the base and top of the dam. With GKZ articulated couplings between the VARIO elements, the horizontal radius could be comfortably adjusted.
